Freedom to Go ambassador, Oliver Webb, gives us his insight into the ups and downs of a being a professional motor-racing driver following his debut in the World Endurance Championship…

With thousands flocking sunny Silverstone for the opening round of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) last weekend and following our successful test days in France, the team were filled with anticipation for an exciting and busy race meeting.
When I arrived I had a beautiful Bailey of Bristol waiting for me, parked in the prestigious Plot 10 in the British Racing Drivers Club motorhome parking. The motorhome became the perfect retreat to escape the press, chill out and relax in away from the pit lane.
On day one between testing, press interviews and grid walks I spent time on and off the phone in the back of the motorhome, a welcome change from the often cold pit lane of Silverstone.
Following an exhausting first day followed by some lengthy meetings I was relieved to only walk a few hundred meters to get into bed, chill out and not have to worry about the traffic the next morning.
The following morning, with the knowledge that over 45,000 people were battling to get into the circuit I enjoyed a lie in, invaluable for endurance motor racing, waking up one hour later than I would staying at the team hotel and strolled into the pit lane without hassle from parking or press.
However, despite our successful days testing in France and great preparation Silverstone was ultimately a disappointing weekend with the team having to pull out of the race at the last minute.
But it’s onwards and upwards as we look to resolve the gremlins from Silverstone and prepare for the next race. We are confident we can finish what we’ve started and have a successful season ahead.
Our next round is Spa in Belgium, the warm up for the most famous race weekend in the world, the Le Mans 24 hours. Watch this space!
